Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Perfection Slowed Down Construction On Its New Spaceship Campus

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Spaceship Campus expected be ready by later this year. Apple unveiled its plans to construct a spaceship campus back in the year 2011. They gave an initial projection of having the project completed by the year 2015, but this did not happen since Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, has been pushing the workers with a huge list of the perfections he needed to be implemented building the headquarters.

The campus is said to something of an exception to trend of the radically open offices aimed at fostering collaboration. However, it may open later this year.

Perfections demanded

Among the perfections slowing down the construction include the demand that doorways be perfectly flat. In addition to this, there should be no subtle bump between the outside and the inside of the building. This consumed months to be debated since money and time had to be spent in attempts to accomplish it. However, Apple was reported not to give in.

Reports says that time in months was spent on signs. Apple demanded a minimalist look, more so, the fire department demanded that the signs to be put in place be legible in case of an emergency.

The building most talked feature is its use of the world’s largest piece of curved glass. This had been put in place after the managers insisted that no vents or pipes could be reflected in the building’s glass exterior.

Also, over a year and a half has been spent in debating over what the doorknobs should look like. As if that is not enough, a 30 pages guideline just for the special wood being used has to be implemented.

Adding on the list of the perfections slowing the completion of this Spaceship Campus construction is its painting and crafting works. Brett Davis who is the regional director of the District Council 16 Union for painters and related crafts has been quoted saying that “It’s like a painting you won’t want to touch.”

Apple was also noted to have insisted thousands on ceiling panels to ensure they were free from flaws or mistakes inside and out. But constructing such a building as flawless as a hand-held device is not that easy.

It is true that everyone loves such kind of product, but some of these requirements consumed time which could have been better spent elsewhere.
