Vodafone Group Plc (ADR) (NASDAQ:VOD) Egypt And Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) Launch First Commercial Virtual Network Function In Middle East

After selecting Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC), one of the NASDAQ Stock​ as its Network Function Virtualization partner, Vodafone Group Plc (ADR) (NASDAQ:VOD) Egypt has announced the commercial virtual network function to be set in Middle East. Vodafone Egypt’s commercial mobile broadband network has been under the management of virtual Serving GPRS Support Node – Mobility Management Entity (SGSN-MME) from Ericsson.

Ericsson’s virtual SGSN-MME supports several technologies like WCDMA, GSM and LTE as well as Wi-Fi-powered networks. The network offers a full package of features and supports both VMware and Open stack. Due to Erickson’s pooling program, Vodafone Egypt network operates on a combination of native and virtual SGSN/MME pooled together.

Vodafone Egypt Technology Director Osama Said expressed delight at the partnership saying the move will allow the companies move towards Network Function Virtualization. He adds that virtualization will boast efficiency and speed of service delivery to customers.

Ericsson, which is one of the best mobile telecommunication NASDAQ Stock, is highly experienced in the development and operation of  ​ LTE/EPC networks. The company has developed and operated over 300 networks globally which include either a virtual and native SGSN-MME. The technology is progressively growing to include new features, opening new business for operators and cutting on operation costs.

 Ericsson’s Head of Region Middle East and East Africa Rafiah Ibrahim says using the virtual SGSN technology will be a significant step for    Vodafone Egypt I the journey towards cloud transformation and virtualization. He adds that operators are exploring multiple means of achieving efficiencies and increasing capacity and the partnership will enable Vodafone Egypt achieve these goals.

Through proven functionality and software, the Ericsson SGSN-MME boosts capabilities of networks to meet some of the most aggressive predictions of traffic growth. It offers superior capacity and scalability to enable operators to manage and accommodate the increasing traffic volume as well as optimize their operations from mobile broadband.

Ericsson demonstrated its innovative solutions and collaborative approach to enable the company succeed in the highly dynamic but lucrative digital field. The demonstration took place at the Mobile World Congress 2017 from February 27 to March 2 in Barcelona, Spain
