Match: Belagavi Panthers vs Shivamogga Lions, Karnataka Premier League 2019

Date: Sunday, August 25, 2019

Time: 09:30 AM GMT

Venue: Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadiyar Ground, Mysore

Preview – Battle between the table toppers and the wooden spooners

It will be a face-off between the table toppers and the ones who have been stranded at the bottom of the table in the Karnataka Premier League 2019. While the Shivamogga Lions have earned six points in 3 games this season and are sitting pretty at the top with a Net Run Rate of +0.982, the Belagavi Panthers have lost two and tied one game so far and are at the bottom with a horrible Net Run Rate of -0.184.

Hence, the Panthers have to really be at their best when they clash against the Lions on the 25th of August.

Things might change for both the teams on Friday, the 23rd of August, when the Belagavi Panthers clash against Bengaluru Blasters and the Shivamogga Lions square off against the Bellary Tuskers. The Belagavi Panthers, especially, would hope to secure a solid win before their big match on Sunday.

For now, though, the Panthers have a lot to think about. Captain Manish Pandey’s valiant unbeaten 102 in the last game against the Hubli Tigers wasn’t enough as the others didn’t support him enough. None of the other batsmen even passed the score of 20 and the likes of openers Ravikumar Samarth and Stallin Hoover, along with middle-order batsmen Shubang Hegde and Dikshanshu Negi would have to put up a much better performance if they hope to stay alive.

The bowling of the Panthers hasn’t been great either. Seamer Zahoor Farooqui went for 45 runs in his 4 overs in the last game against the Tigers. Apart from young spinner Shubang Hegde, who was really economical, the other impactful bowlers like D Avinash and Stallin Hoover would need to be better.

Meanwhile, Shivamogga Lions captain Abhimanyu Mithun must be confident of his team’s chances. Their batting unit looks solid with wicket-keeper batsman and opener Nihal Ullal looking better with every game and Arjun Hoysala providing him able support. The middle-order has strength with HS Sarath along with Pavan Deshpande, whose 53 against the Mysuru Warriors was a match-winning one, being the pillars. Captain Mithun has been proving useful blows lower down the order too.

The Lions have plenty of variety in their bowling with captain Mithun himself leading the way with his seam bowling. Seamers T Pradeep and HS Sharath have been among the wickets too and S P Manjunath has proved useful as an extra bowler as well.

Hence, the Shivamogga Lions have all bases covered and look the team to beat.

Match prediction – Belagavi Panthers vs Shivamogga Lions:

In the last four games between the two sides in the Karnataka Premier League, the Belagavi Panthers have emerged victorious on three occasions and one game had no result. Going by history, the Panthers have the edge in this upcoming clash. But current form suggests that the Shivamogga Lions are in great form and should emerge victorious in this mouth-watering day match.

Not much is known about the pitch at Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadiyar Ground, Mysore. But it should be a good batting surface which will slow down later in the day.

T20 is a lottery at times. And one sensational innings can turn things around for any side. The Belagavi Panthers would hope that the tide turns their way this Sunday. We are certainly poised for an interesting game of cricket.
