Cagliari will look to pick up their first win of the season when they travel to the Ennio Tardini to face Parma in the Serie A.
The season has not started for Cagliari. They have lost both their games so far and lie in 18th spot in the table. Cagliari hosted promoted side Brescia in their first game of the season. It was an easy fixture on paper, but Brescia managed to pull off a 1-0 win. Cagliari had more possession and more shots on target, but they failed to convert their chances.
Cagliari hosted Inter Milan in their second game. Joao Pedro equalized for them after Lautaro Martinez had given Inter the lead. But a late penalty from Romelu Lukaku condemned them to yet another defeat. The club made headlines for the bad reasons as a lot of their fans directed racist chants at Lukaku when he took the penalty. No action has been taken so far against the club or any individual fans.Embed from Getty Images
Cagliari avoided relegation last season, but barely. They finished in 15th place, just three points clear of Empoli in 18th. Manager Rolando Maran was given another season at the club despite the close shave with relegation. Staying in the Serie A will be the bare minimum of what the club expects from Maran this season. A poor attack was one of Cagliari’s weaknesses last season. They have scored just once this season, which does not reflect positively upon that problem.
Parma were in a similar position to Cagliari last season. They finished level on points with Cagliari, albeit with a slightly better goal difference. It’s early days this season, but they are in a better place as of now. Courtesy of winning one of their two games this season Parma are 9th in the table. They hosted Juventus in their opening fixture and succumbed to a 1-0 loss to the defending champions. It was an encouraging performance, and Juve did not threaten much apart from the goal.Embed from Getty Images
Parma travelled to Udinese the following week. Kevin Lasagna gave the home side the lead, but Parma bounced back. Goals from Gervinho, Riccardo Gagliolo, and Roberto Inglese gave them a 3-1 win. Parma were very clinical, as they scored with all three of their shots on target. On the other hand, Udinese had 11 efforts on target and scored only once. Gervinho stole the show as he was involved in all three goals.
The head to head record is a positive sign for Cagliari. They have won three of the last five meetings between the two sides. Cagliari won the last meeting 2-0 as Leonardo Pavoletti scored a brace. Pavoletti is injured right now, and Cagliari will rely on the likes of Joao Pedro and Alberto Cerri for goals.
Parma vs Cagliari Prediction
It is a tough game to call, but Parma should edge it due to the current form. They were impressive against Udinese, and they are likely to get the three points against Cagliari. The total goals expected be over 2.5 in the game.
