Two sides near the relegation zone will face off when Metz host Amiens at the Stade Saint-Symphorien on Saturday.
Metz are 17th place, safe from the relegation zone by the smallest of margins. They have four points, which is just one more than Strasbourg in 18th place. Metz have claimed just one win in the season so far. That came in the second game when they beat Monaco 3-0. Habib Diallo scored a brace that day, and Renaud Cohade scored the other to hand their side the three points.
Aside from that win, Metz drew 1-1 with Strasbourg on the opening weekend. Diallo scored in that game as well. But recently their form has gone off a cliff. Metz have the lost the last three games in succession. They have conceded eight goals in that time, and have not scored even one. Getting back to winning ways will be the priority for manager Frederic Antonetti. They need to start scoring goals again and having the majority of the ball will not do any good. Metz were in the Ligue 1 just two seasons ago when they finished in the last place. They managed to win only six games in the whole campaign. After relegation, they took the Ligue 2 by storm. Metz finished first by a healthy margin to gain promotion back at their first attempt. If they want to avoid relegation immediately after promotion, Metz need to change their fortunes quickly.
Amiens’ situation is not different from Metz. They have the same points and are a spot above due to their superior goal difference. Aside from that, the danger of dropping into the relegation zone is still there. Amiens are winless in their last three games. They faced Lyon in their last game and were trailing 2-1 heading into stoppage time. But Mathieu Bodmer scored a late equaliser to rescue a point for Amiens.Embed from Getty Images
Before the Lyon game, Amiens had lost against Nantes and Toulouse. Their last win came in August when they beat Lille 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Serhou Guirassy. Amiens have conceded eight goals this season, and only two other sides have let in more in the Ligue 1. Manager Luka Elsner needs to address his side’s defensive frailties.

Amiens and Metz met in the cup last season when Amiens managed to claim a 2-1 victory across two legs. The season before, Amiens won both their league encounters by a score of 2-0 each time. The head to head record is clearly in favor of the away side on Saturday.
However, the recent form doesn’t make the prediction as easy. Both sides are in a bad spot, and they need a win desperately. It will be a close game, with the total goals to be under 2.5. Amiens will be the slight favorites to get the three points and inflict more misery upon Metz.
