Marseille will look to continue their winning streak when they host Montpellier in the Ligue 1 on Saturday at Stade Velodrome .
After starting the season on a poor note, Marseille are on the up now. They opened their campaign with a loss and a draw, claiming just one point from the first two games. They scored no goals in that time while conceding two. Since then, their form has taken a turn for the better. Marseille have won their last three games to jump to fourth place in the table. After missing out on European football this season, they will hope to get that this time.
Marseille got their first win of the season when they claimed a 2-1 victory over Nice. In the following week, they beat Saint-Etienne 1-0. Last week Marseille travelled to face Monaco. In a thrilling game, they claimed a 4-3 win to get three more points. Wissam Ben Yedder scored twice for Monaco to give them a 2-0 lead, but Marseille scored four unanswered goals after that. Dario Benedetto got two, and Valere Germain and Dimitri Payet both added one.Embed from Getty Images
Benedetto has scored four league goals since his summer move from Boca Juniors. He has taken the starting spot in the team, and he should hold on to it in the coming weeks. Manager Andre Villas-Boas will have no worries about his attack, but his defence has been far from perfect. They conceded three goals against Monaco, which is not an encouraging sign.
As for Montpellier, they are 12th in the table heading into the clash with Marseille. Despite the huge gap in positions, a win for Montpellier would put them level on points with Marseille. They have won two of their games so far, one of which came last week. Their opponents were Nice, who took an early lead through Adrien Tameze. But Montpellier hit back through Andy Delort and Florent Mollet to claim a 2-1 win.
Montpellier have scored just four goals this season, which is a worry. Delort is their top scorer with two goals to his name. Montpellier’s away record is not great, and they have failed to win on the road. The Stade Velodrome is a tough ground to visit, which will put up an obstacle for Montpellier. However, their recent form is decent, with just one loss in their last four games.

The last time Montpellier won at the Stade Velodrome was in 2014. Since then Marseille have ruled supreme on their home turf. In the previous six matches between these two sides, both have won twice. Marseille won this fixture 1-0 last season as Florian Thauvin got the goal. He will miss the game due to a long-term injury.
Marseille are in great form, and they should claim yet another win against Montpellier. The total goals should be less than 2.5, as Montpellier’s attack has not looked inspiring. A clean sheet could also be on the cards for Marseille along with the three points.
