Udinese will look to climb out of the relegation zone when they face Verona on Tuesday at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.
After four games, Udinese lie in 18th place in the table. They have just three points and have lost the last three games in succession. Udinese hosted promoted side Brescia on Saturday, and it was an easy game on paper. However, the home crowd was dissatisfied at the final whistle as Brescia claimed a 1-0 win. Last week they travelled to Milan to face Inter who won 1-0. Before that, they lost 3-1 against Parma. Udinese’s only win of the season came on the opening weekend. They claimed a 1-0 win over AC Milan courtesy of a goal from Rodrigo Becao. Their attack has misfired this season, and only Sampdoria have scored fewer goals. The likes of Kevin Lasagna need to step up in the coming weeks in front of the goal.
Udinese finished 12th last season and were in no real danger of relegation. However, that does not seem to be the case this time. If the early signs are indicative, they are in for a tough season. Manager Igor Tudor should be worried about his side’s attack. Ignacio Pussetto started the game against Brescia, but Ilija Nestorovski should come back into the team on Tuesday.
Verona have only one point more than Udinese, but they are six spots above in 12th. They started the season with a 1-1 draw with Bologna. Pawel Dawidowicz was sent off in that game for Verona, but Miguel Veloso scored to rescue a point. In the following game, Matteo Pessina scored a late winner as Udinese beat Lecce 1-0. Since then, they have failed to pick up any points.Embed from Getty Images
They hosted Milan last week when Mariusz Stepinski received an early red card. The sending off changed the pattern of the game and Milan took advantage. Krzysztof Piatek scored to hand Milan the win. On Saturday Verona had another tough match as they faced defending champions Juventus. They earned a penalty in the first half, but Samuel Di Carmine missed it. The rebound also struck the woodwork, and Verona were distraught. But Miguel Veloso struck back immediately with a screamer to give them the lead. Juventus replied and earned a 2-0 victory in the end.
Verona were in the Serie B last season, but these two sides did meet the season before. Udinese won both those clashes and they are unbeaten in the last five games against Verona. They have scored nine goals in that time, whereas Verona have managed just one.
Verona vs Udinese Prediction
Udinese are below Verona right now, but they should get the three points on Tuesday. The home crowd will be behind them and a strong performance should follow. It will be a tight game, with total goals Under 2.5.
