Serie A 2019/2020 – Roma vs Atalanta Preview and Prediction – Wednesday, September 25, at Stadio Olimpico

Unbeaten Roma will host Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday in the Serie A.

After finishing sixth last time, Roma have started the season strongly. They are yet to taste defeat in the opening four games. Roma have won two of those games, drawing the other two. Their first game of the season ended in a 3-3 draw with Genoa. It was a whirlwind game in which Roma led three times. In the following week, they claimed a 1-1 draw with Lazio. Aleksandar Kolarov scored for Roma to add to his goal against Genoa.

Since then, Roma have won all three games. They beat Sassuolo 4-2 in a comfortable home win. Roma led 4-0 before half-time, and the points were secured before the interval. New signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored his first goal for the club against Sassuolo. Edin Dzeko, Bryan Cristante, and Justin Kluivert got the other goals. In the next game, Roma faced Istanbul Basaksehir in the Europa League group stage. They scored four times again to record a 4-0 win. Dzeko and Kluivert were among the goals yet again. Roma played in the Champions League last season, but are in the second tier this campaign.

Roma traveled to face Bologna last weekend and took the lead through Aleksandar Kolarov. Bologna equalised, and the game seemed to be headed for a draw. But Edin Dzeko had the final say as he scored the winner in stoppage time. The Bosnian is going strong again, and he has already scored four times this season. Roma have scored 14 goals in their five games so far this campaign.

Atalanta is another side who have European ambitions this time. They finished third last season in the league which granted them qualification for the Champions League. Atalanta are sixth in the table after accumulating four points from their games so far. Their attack has continued to flourish, and they have scored two goals in all of their league games. However, their weak defense is what has cost them points.

They beat SPAL 3-2 in the first game, only to lose to Torino by the same scoreline in the following week. Their last league game was against Fiorentina. Atalanta trailed by 2-0 in the first half, but Josip Ilicic pulled one back. Then Timothy Castagne scored in stoppage time to rescue a point for his side.

Atalanta’s Champions League campaign started badly as they lost 4-0 to Dinamo Zagreb in the first game. They will get a chance to change that when they host Shakhtar Donetsk next week. Both these teams faced each other twice last season, and each game ended in a 3-3 draw.

Roma vs Atalanta Prediction

We should see some more goals this time as well. The total goals should me over 2.5 in the game, and each side should find the back of the net. Roma will be slight favorites to get the win, as they have looked better defensively compared to Atalanta. But it will be a close game, entertaining for the neutral.
