Leaders Inter will host Lazio at the San Siro on Wednesday as they attempt to maintain their perfect record in the Serie A.
Inter have flown out of the blocks under new coach Antonio Conte. They have won their four league games so far and are in first place in the table. The early signs suggest that Inter are the favorites to topple Juventus from their domestic throne. Juve have won the Scudetto for the past eight seasons, some of which were delivered by Antonio Conte himself. He won three straight Serie A titles as Juve manager from 2012 to 2014.
He is back in Italy now, but with Inter. His side lead second-placed Juventus by two points. Inter started their league campaign with a 4-0 win over Lecce. It was an easy win for Inter, and Romelu Lukaku scored in his debut for the club against Lecce. In the next game, Lukaku scored the winner from the penalty spot as Inter beat Cagliari 2-1. Inter’s first Champions League game ended in a 1-1 draw with Slavia Praha, but they remain in contention to advance to the knockout stages. Conte has deployed a 3-5-2 formation, in which Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez spearhead the attack. He also has the likes of Matteo Politano and Alexis Sanchez waiting in the wings as backup. It seems like Inter could mount a serious title challenge this season.
They will face Lazio on Wednesday, whose situation is not as rosy. Currently, in 5th place in the table, Lazio are aiming to finish in the top four this season. They finished eighth last season, which means they are playing in the Europa League this time. Lazio opened their campaign with a 3-0 win against Sampdoria. Since then they have played four times in all competitions, winning just one. That win came this weekend when they hosted Parma. Immobile opened the scoring in the 8th minute to give his side the lead. In the second half, Adam Marusic doubled the lead to seal the points for Lazio.
Lazio’s Europa League campaign is not going well as they lost the first game to CFR Cluj. Inter have dominated the head to head record against Lazio in recent years. In the last six encounters, they have won four. But Lazio won the last matchup in March. A goal from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was enough to give them the three points in that game.
Inter vs Lazio Prediction
However, Inter will be favorites to pick up the three points this time. Their defense has looked great, and they have conceded just once in the league. The total goals should be Under 2.5 in this one.
