Napoli will look to continue their winning streak when they host Cagliari at the Stadio San Paolo on Wednesday.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side finished second last season, and they are in contention this time as well. After four games they are third in the table, just three points behind leaders Inter. Napoli have lost just one league game so far, which came against Juventus. They trailed 3-0 in that game but staged a comeback. Goals from Kostas Manolas, Hirving Lozano, and Giovanni Di Lorenzo made it 3-3. However, Kalidou Koulibaly scored a disastrous own goal in stoppage time to hand the three points to Juventus.
In the other three games, Napoli have recorded comfortable victories. They faced Lecce on Sunday and managed to claim a 4-1 win. Fernando Llorente opened the scoring, and Lorenzo Insigne doubled the lead in the first half with a penalty. Fabian Ruiz made it 3-0 before Llorente got his second goal to seal the win. The other goal came against Liverpool in the Champions League. Napoli claimed a 2-0 win over the defending champions. Mertens made it 1-0 with a penalty and Llorente scored n stoppage time to put a gloss on the scoreline. Ancelotti started with both Llorente and Arkadiusz Milik against Lecce, and the move paid dividends. Mertens was given a rest as he did not feature. There is a lot of depth in the Napoli attack, with the likes of Jose Callejon and Irving Lozano waiting as well.
Cagliari are currently ninth in the table after winning two of their four games. After losing their first two games of the season, Cagliari have won the last two. First, they faced Parma and recorded a 3-1 victory. Luca Ceppitelli got a brace in that game, and Giovanni Simeone scored the other. They hosted Genoa on Friday and beat them 3-1. Cagliari finished last season in 15th place. Their best finish in recent years came in 2017 when they finished in 12th place. Manager Rolando Maran will hope to better that this time. He has been at the club since last season. Maran will hope to continue their winning streak against Napoli.
However, the head to head record is not in their favor. Cagliari have not beaten Napoli in the last 18 games. In that span, Napoli have won 13, and the rest have ended in draws. Napoli have won the previous seven games against Cagliari, scoring at least three goals in five of those matches.
Napoli vs Cagliari Tips
Napoli will be the favorites this time as well. They should record a comfortable win over Cagliari. The total goals should be Over 2.5, and both sides should score.
