Nimes will travel to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy to face Lille in the Ligue 1 on Sunday.
After a great season last time, Lille have continued on that momentum this campaign. Lille made a huge jump of 15 places to finish second in the league last season. As a result, they are playing in the Champions League currently. After eight league games, Lille are fourth in the table. Finishing there at the end of the season will fetch them a Europa League berth, and they will want to stay in the top tier in Europe.
Lille are unbeaten in their last three league games but have won only one of them. That win came last weekend when they claimed a 2-0 win against Strasbourg. Victor Osimhen and Loic Remy got the goals for them. Osimhem has been in great form for them since joining from Charleroi in the summer. The 20-year-old has scored six goals in eight league appearances. He also has a Champions League goal to his name which came on Wednesday against Chelsea.Embed from Getty Images
Osimhen scored in a 2-1 defeat, which was Lille’s second successive loss in their campaign. They suffered a 3-0 loss against Ajax in their first group stage game. Lille’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout rounds are slim, as they are in the last place in the group. In the last seven games in all competitions, Lille have kept just one clean sheet. The defensive frailties will be a worry for coach Christophe Galtier.
As for Nimes, they are at the other end of the table. Nimes are in 15th place, and they have claimed eight points from as many games. But Saint-Etienne in 19th place also have those many points. A superior goal difference has been the savior for Nimes. They will need to start picking up points at a better rate to move away from the relegation zone.Embed from Getty Images
Nimes have lost their last two league games. Both those encounters were close, and Nimes suffered 1-0 defeats. Montpellier beat them two weeks ago before Saint-Etienne did the same last Sunday. Nimes had 65% possession against Saint-Etienne, who had a man sent off in the latter stages of the game. They had 23 efforts on goal, compared to just six from their opponents. However, they failed to take their chances and got nothing from the game.
Lille have dominated the recent head to head record between these two sides. They have won the last three meetings, scoring 11 goals in the process. In the last game, Lille claimed a 5-0 win and Nimes had no answer. A similar result can be on the cards on Sunday.
Lille vs Nimes Betting Tips
Lille will be the heavy favorites going into the game. Nimes are out of form, and their misery can be compounded. There will be a lot of goals in this game, and the total number will be Over 2.5. Both sides should find the back of the net, but Lille have the quality to get the three points.
