Parma will look to continue their upward trajectory when they host Verona at the Stadio Ennio Tardini in the Serie A on Monday night.
I Gialloblu finished 14th in the league last season and have started this season in a much better fashion. Roberto D’Aversa’s side currently sits in 8th place, ahead of the likes of Fiorentina, Torino and AC Milan.
Parma currently have 12 points from 8 games, same as Lazio and Fiorentina who are a position above and below respectively. A win here coupled with results elsewhere could see them rise as high as 5th while they could drop into the bottom half of the table if things go awry.Embed from Getty Images
Either way, the home side will look to go for all 3 points and continue their positive start to the season.
Coming to their opponents, Verona are currently 15th in the league table, just 3 points ahead of SPAL in 18th place. However, they are also just 3 points behind Parma, so the gap is pretty small at the moment.Embed from Getty Images
Ivan Juric’s side is enduring a topsy-turvy start to the season, after getting promoted from Serie B, through the playoffs route. While I Mastini will be pleased for not being in the relegation places, the club will believe they can continue to improve as they look to stay up this season.
However, a trip to Parma will be a real test for Juric’s men and they will need to be at their absolute best to get a result.
In terms of team news, D’Aversa should have most of his squad to pick from with Matteo Darmian back in training. However, the likes of Juraj Kucka and Vincent Laurini are doubts for the game.
Meanwhile, Juric will have to take a call on Alessandro Crescenzi while Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Daniel Bessa are doubts for the game.
Head-To-Head and Parma vs Verona Prediction
Looking at recent head-to-head, the duo met for the last time back in 2015. In the last 4 meetings, Verona won twice compared to Parma’s one with the other game ending in a draw. 15 goals were scored in those games with just a single clean sheet, implying another goal-fest could be on the cards.
Further, the 8 Parma games witnessed 24 goals while Verona games saw just 14 goals. Thus, the visitors will look to keep things tight at the back and withstand the free-flowing Parma attack.
Finally, both teams have lost 2 of their last 5 games, however, Parma have won the remaining 3 while Verona picked up a solitary victory in the remaining ones.
Thus, Parma are favorites to win the match and they can be expected to register a clean sheet as well.
