Osasuna will travel to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez to take on Getafe on Sunday in the La Liga.
Last season’s surprise package Getafe have kept on going strong this time as well. They are seventh in the table courtesy of accumulating 19 points. Getafe are just three points below leaders Barcelona in a very tight top half in the La Liga this season. After gaining promotion to the first division last season, Getafe surprised many people by finishing fifth. As a result, they are playing in the Europa League this campaign.
Getafe are second in their Europa League group as it stands with two games to go in the group stage. A passage to the knockout rounds is on the cards if they navigate past some tricky games. In the league, Getafe have won the last two. They claimed a 3-1 win over Granada before beating Celta Vigo 1-0. Kenedy got his first goal against Celta, which was the winner. Getafe had 38% possession in the game but had four attempts on target compared to just two from Celta. Their average possession in La Liga is 45.6% which is the third-lowest in the league. However, the approach has worked for coach Jose Bordalas. The likes of Jaime Mata and Angel Rodriguez are thriving in the system. Mata and Rodriguez have combined for nine goals in the league this season, which is half of Getafe’s tally.
Osasuna are just a point below Getafe as it stands. They are in ninth place after an impressive start to the season by their standards. Osasuna finished first in the Segunda Division last season to gain promotion to the top flight. In the last three games, they have not lost and have claimed seven points out of a possible nine. A draw against Osasuna followed the comeback win against Valencia. Last week they hosted Alaves at the El Sadar and claimed a comprehensive 4-2 victory.Embed from Getty Images
Ruben Garcia opened the scoring for Osasuna, and Ezequiel Avila made it 2-0 in no time. Victor Laguardia pulled one back for Alaves before Roberto Torres restored the two-goal cushion for Osasuna. Juan Villar scored with a penalty in the second half to secure the three points for Osasuna. They dominated the possession in the game and had six efforts on target.
These two sides have not met in a competitive clash since 2014. Osasuna won their last head to head clash by a 2-1 scoreline. If they claim another win on Sunday, they could leapfrog their opponents in the table.
Getafe vs Osasuna Prediction
It will be a close game, as both sides are in good form this season. Both sides have an emphasis on attacking football, and we should see over 2.5 goals in this game. Either side will find the back of the net to give way for an entertaining game. Getafe have the slight advantage to get a close win on their own turf.
