Both the Cairns Taipans and Brisbane Bullets have been inconsistent in the NBL 2019-20 season. The Taipans are having a horrible season and have managed just 2 wins so far along with 6 losses; they stand 8th in the points table. Brisbane have been marginally better – they are 5th in the points table with 4 wins and 4 losses.
Earlier in this season, the Brisbane Bullets and the Cairns Taipans had clashed once with the Bullets registering a comfortable 90:74 win at home.
Now, as the Cairns Taipans host Brisbane for this all important Round 7 clash on November 16, the Bullets will still have an edge owing to better form. Incidentally, both the teams are coming off losses in their previous games. While Cairns Taipans were embarrassed 91:101 by Illawarra Hawks at home, the Brisbane Bullets were thumped 85:95 by Sydney.Embed from Getty Images
Brisbane has a solid team with many players in form. Nathan Sobey, who enjoyed a big 21-point game against the Taipans in their last encounter, is in good nick and can have another big game. Forward Lamar Patterson (19 PPG) has been their top player this season and will look to have a big game. The other impact-players can be center Matthew Hodgson and guard Jason Cadee.
Cairns Taipans, meanwhile, have a tough task on their hands. They have now lost two back-to-back-games and their confidence has really sunk low.
Cameron Oliver (17.75 PPG) has been their best player by some distance and will need to be at his best against Brisbane. DJ Newbill and Majok Deng have been good for the team and their roles will be crucial. Guard Mirko Djeric had a fantastic last game where he scored 19 points against the Illawarra Hawks and could be a key player again.
Match prediction – Cairns Taipans vs Brisbane Bullets:
Both Cairns Taipans and Brisbane Bullets will play only one game each in Round 7. Hence, their clash on November 16 is of utmost importance. Both the teams would like one win under their belt before they head to Round 8.
The Taipans and the Bullets have produced some close encounters where the scoring is generally within 100 points by each team. Even in the NBL 2018/2019 season both the teams clash 4 times with each team winning two games apiece.
We can expect another close clash as the Taipans and the Bullets jostle to get ahead. This will be a low-scoring game with the total points scored remaining between 180-200.
This is a tough game to call as both these teams are unpredictable, but the Brisbane Bullets are likely to have an edge despite this being an away game. Doubts have been raised over them and they should silence their detractors after this match. We would back the Brisbane Bullets to win this match against the Cairns Taipans who really appear to be struggling.
