Bottom side Toulouse will hope to turn their fortunes when they host Monaco at the Stadium Municipal on Wednesday.
Toulouse have claimed just 12 points from their 15 games and remain rooted to the bottom. They have lost the last five league games, which means that they are three points adrift of safety. Toulouse’s last league win was a 2-1 result over Lille. Yaya Sanogo and Max-Alain Gradel scored for Toulouse in that victory. In the five games since then, Toulouse have conceded at least two goals in each of those.
No side in the Ligue 1 has conceded more than Toulouse’s 29 goals this season. Toulouse faced Nantes on Sunday and succumbed to a 2-1 loss. Aaron Leya Iseka scored a late penalty, but it was nothing more than a consolation in the end. Kouadio Kone was sent off for Toulouse in the first half, which was a big blow for them. It was the second straight game in which a Toulouse player was sent off. Steven Moreira received his marching orders last week against Marseille.
Efthymios Koulouris has been Toulouse’s top scorer this season with four goals to his name. The likes of Gradel and Sanogo have chipped in as well. Their defence is the aspect which needs major improvement. Toulouse have kept just two clean sheets this season, and both of them came back in August. Despite their poor run, the gap to 17th place is just three points. A heavy win against Monaco could see them climb out of the relegation zone if other results go their way.
Monaco have steadied their ship after a shaky start to the season. They have won six out of the last nine matches in all competitions. Now Monaco are in 14th place, three points clear of the relegation zone. They faced Bordeaux in their last game and fell to a 2-1 defeat. Islam Slimani gave them the lead, but Bordeaux fought back to get the win. But coach Leonardo Jardim is seeing some encouraging sides with his squad. Their defence has improved, which is a welcome sight. Monaco have kept two clean sheets in their last four games. They have scored 21 goals this season, which is bettered by only two teams in the entire league.
Monaco have dominated Toulouse recently, and they are unbeaten in the last five encounters. In that time Monaco have won thrice, drawing the other two. Their last match was a 2-1 win in favour of Monaco. A similar result would be a pleasing one for Leonardo Jardim.
Toulouse vs Monaco Prediction
Monaco will go into the game as favorites to win it. Toulouse are on a bad run, and they won’t have enough to beat Monaco. Both sides should score, and the total goals will be over 2.5 in the game. But Monaco will score more to get the three points on Wednesday.
