Alaves will host Villarreal at the Mendizorroza in the La Liga on Saturday.
Alaves Match Form
After a terrible month of December, Alaves have started the new year on the right note. They have played twice this month, and have not lost yet while picking up four points. Alaves claimed an impressive point against Betis before facing Levante away from home on Saturday. Aleix Vidal scored the only goal of the game to hand Alaves a 1-0 victory. It was their first league win since a 2-0 triumph over Eibar in the last week of November.
Alaves did not win a single game in December and lost thrice in four attempts. The win against Levante pushed them to 14th in the table, which is a great leap from the relegation trouble. Now they are five points clear of the bottom three. Manager Asier Garitano will hope that the cushion continues to rise in the coming weeks. Like many of their games this season Alaves did not dominate the ball against Levante. They had 46% possession but had six shots on target in the game.
The average possession for Alaves this season is 44.3%, which is the lowest in the entire league. Garitano’s side like to stay organised in defence and the majority of their forays forward come on the counter-attack. Villarreal’s average possession is 52.2%, and the game should follow a predictable pattern. The likes of Lucas Perez and Joselu will be tasked with getting goals on the counter. Alaves need more goals from their side, and they have mustered just 21 so far in La Liga.
Villarreal Match Form
Villarreal are flying high, but their winning streak came to an end on Sunday. Espanyol beat them 2-1 which was their first defeat in six games in all competitions. Espanyol were leading 2-0, but a red card for Javi Lopez gave Villarreal a lifeline. Santi Cazorla made it 2-1 with a penalty, but Villarreal could not get the equaliser. A 2-1 win over Real Sociedad was an impressive result as Manu Trigueros and Cazorla got the goals in that one. Villarreal also claimed two Copa del Rey wins in that time. They are currently ninth in the table, just three points below sixth-placed Sociedad. Finishing there will yield Europa League qualification, which is what Villarreal will be craving for this season.
The last match between these two sides ended in a 4-1 win for Villarreal. However, the three clashes before that one were clinched by Alaves. Both sides have scored in each of the past four meetings, and those games have seen 3.5 goals on average.
Alaves vs Villarreal Betting Tips
This time should be no different, and both sides will score in this one. The total goals should be over 2.5 in the game. Villarreal will be the slight favorites to get the win courtesy of their attack. They have scored 34 league goals this season, and a couple more will be enough for the three points on Saturday.
